Acknowledgements
Compiling the results of three-year hard work by many people into a single manuscript, is an ambitious project supported by many not necessarily reflected in the list of contributors or editors. I would firstly like to thank all my colleagues at the Cancer Centre of the Scientific Institute of Public Health, especially Marie-Joelle Robberechts, Elly Den Hond and Pauline Wurstemberger, for their excellent help behind the scenes. The coordination of the project provided continuous support, advice and links to all associated and collaborating partners, in particular the members of the project’s coordination office, Tina Lipuš?ek and Robert Potisek.
We extend special thanks to the core Work Package Leaders and their deputies, Lucio Luzzato and Fotios Loupakis, Tit Albreht and Radivoje Pribakovi? Brinovec, Julien Tognetti and Claudia Ferrari as well as Ahti Anttila and Harry de Koning. Thanks go to all the ministries of health and governments of Member States, which participated as associated partners, for their financial and logistic support without which it would be impossible to complete all the tasks on time. Especially precious was the dedication of all the collaborating partners who contributed greatly to all chapters and, in the cases of some, to all of them. Big thanks to your commitment and constructiveness.
We especially thank Irene Glinos of the European Observatory on Health Systems and Policies (EOHSP) for her expert critical support along the process in developing this Guide. Together with her colleagues, she helped us focusing on what matters to policymakers in the field of cancer control. Our invaluable respect and deep gratitude to Josep Maria Borras and Mark Dobrow for their extraordinary preparation of a high-level summary chapter at the very last minute. Special thanks to Josep Figueras and Martin McKee from the EOHSP for critical reading this overarching chapter and witty suggestions that certainly contributed to the contingency and clarity of this chapter. We would also like to thank our colleagues of the ‘Guide Coordination Committee’ and their organizations for safeguarding the production of high quality outputs along the three years of this Joint Action. We are very grateful to Jonathan North, Jane Wade and Caroline White of the Observatory publishing team for their patience, rigor, speed and competence in polishing the outputs into a single ready-for-press document in a period where most of us were enjoying quality time with their beloved family and friends. We would like to thank the editors and printing team of Laterna Magica (Belgium) and Maca-Cloetens (Belgium) for their excellent publishing work allowing just-in-time delivery of the Guide book. Finally, we would gratefully thank our colleagues at the European Commission for their convivial collaboration, their constructive comments and inputs and their continuous commitment to the case of cancer that made this Joint Action happen.
